We’ve talked about how sermon interpretation goes beyond a normal conference interpretation. Now, not all of us are familiar with preaching, so I find it extremely helpful to hear how different pastors preach and let them naturally rub off on us. For Mandarin, FLCC’s got you covered. For English, you can start with Pastor David Pawson (like this and that) and Pastor Robert Morris.
You don’t have to study any of them or replicate their styles, but do notice how they carry themselves, how they control their paces, and how they place different emphases to get various points across. Better yet, shadow them, both message and delivery. Once those aspects become familiar and natural to you, you will find it much easier to deliver a message with conviction and skill, in your own way.
That should cover almost all the “raw ingredients” to conduct a sermon interpretation. If you haven’t tried to put everything together, absolutely give that a shot. If you are ready for more advanced training, just click Next.
