Job, Not job

約伯記 {yue1-bo2-ji4}
Old Testament – Wisdom Books

Job, is quite possibly the most misunderstood Book for many reasons. First, let’s get the easy one out of the way. It’s not pronounced like “job” as in “good job” or “Steve Jobs”. Instead, it sounds like how you would pronounce “jobe”.

If you finish the entire book, all 42 chapters of it, you may feel that Job was being misunderstood or even mistreated. Most regrettably though, it is so easy to misunderstand what God really wants us to learn from this Book.

Frankly, I wrestled with my confusion about this Book for 20 years before finally beginning to appreciate it for what indeed a book of wisdom it is. Underneath a series of unconventional or even superficially illogical events, then after a barrage of exchanges that make us lose track of whose side we are on, the Book actually channels essential messages on salvation by faith alone, surrender, and mankind’s fragmented understanding of God’s righteousness, justice, and wisdom.
